An Online Distance Learning Platform In Improving The Academic Performance Of Students In Science 10

TEAM Model Smarter Classrooms make it easier to realize such modern educational concepts as student-centered teaching, cooperative learning, TBL, PBL, and 1-to-1 teaching.


 

 

Innovation, Intervention and Strategy
TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System is a modern smarter school that implements the HiTeach Smarter Teaching System and makes full use of AI & educational big data services. This was used to effectively improves the quality and efficiency of teaching and learning in a systematic, large-scale, and normalized way
In order to attain that purpose, the researchers conducted a study on teaching students using the TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System.
Students were grouped into experimental (E) group and control (C) group. Before the implementation of the TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System to the experimental group (E) and giving modules to the control group (C) prior knowledge of students was determined with the used of thirty items (30) high order thinking skills (HOTS) multiple choice type questions.
The pre-test of knowledge measured the general knowledge about matter and its interaction. The teachers implemented the used of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching Systems on group E for about six weeks, while Group C did the same on the basis of modular print distance learning approach.
The students in Group C were exposed to the modular print distance learning approach on matter and its interaction with the used of Self Learning Modules distributed to students.
In conducting lessons using TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System, the teacher has to signed in HiTeach by screening QR code with HiTA App for teaching and interaction in the class. Since that the students are online, they can open Web IRS on the chrome browser and then enter the classroom code provided by HiTeach.  An IRS clicker (mobile smart phone) was used by the students to key in their answer, to answer the teacher's questions and to do a survey for pop quiz. Students through Web IRS (mobile smart phone) can interact with teachers through text, data, and photos exchange. Each student can express their own opinions and ideas in real-time. This makes learning convenient and interactive.
Both teachers and students can send pictures to each other anytime/anywhere, making it easier and more convenient to teach. Also, HiTeach can quickly organize pictures and messages without the need of using other software.
The HiTeach system can display information including the whole class's statistical charts and group's statistical charts based on the data clicked by the students.
Moreover, teachers can carry out differentiated push functions based on this, push different contents to each group, and achieve differentiated teaching and accomplishment-oriented teaching of diverse ideas. In this environment, teachers can not only focus on the group, but also the individual student. According to the data to promote expression and sharing of diverse ideas, teachers and students can fully enjoy this lively learning atmosphere.
To evaluate the knowledge acquired by students in Groups E and C, a post-test was applied. It measured the quantity and quality of the knowledge that the students acquired in the teaching field (matter and its interaction).


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4-Point Rating Scale was used in interpreting the computed weighted arithmetic mean of students' assessment and perception on the implementation of TEAM Model AI HiTeach Smarter Teaching System.

As a whole, the Mean Percentage Score in both experimental and control groups are 43.650 percent and 40.793 percent for pre-test while 90.952 percent and 78.888 percent for post-test respectively. This implied that the students on experimental group had a greater academic performance with the implementation of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System compared to students on control group who were using the Modular-Print modality.
 

 

Table 2 shows the computed t-test on the significant difference between the academic performance of students (experimental and control group) in Science 10 before and after the implementation of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System and Modular Print Self Learning Module. It was revealed that the computed t-value is 8.36 which is greater than the t-critical value of 2.58(8.36 ≧2.58, df=43) p-value of 0.000 with 0.05 level of confidence. This means that the academic performance of students in experimental group with the implementation of TEAM Model AI HiTeach Smarter System significantly different from the academic performance of students in control group with the Modular Print Self Learning Module. This explains further that the TEAM Model AI HiTeach Smarter Teaching System greatly improve the academic performance of students in Science 10.
 

 

Table 3 shows the assessment of students in the implementation of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System. It was found out that the item “TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System is effective in understanding the lesson” ranked 1 with a mean score of 3.86 and a verbal interpretation of Strongly Agree. While, the items “TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System is interactive, TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System provides remedial teaching and learning, and TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System is engaging” tied at ranked 7 with a mean score of 3.62 and a verbal interpretation of Strongly Agree.

As a whole, the assessment of students on the application of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System in improving the academic performance of students got a mean score of 3.70 and a verbal interpretation of Strongly Agree. This means that the implementation of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System in improving the academic performance of students is very effective in such a way that it is effective in understanding the lesson, engaging and interactive.
 

 

 
Summary of Findings:
    Based on the results of the study, the following are the summary of findings:
1.    The Mean Percentage Score in both experimental and control groups are 43.650 percent and 40.793 percent for pre-test while 90.952 percent and 78.888 percent for post-test respectively. This implied that the students on experimental group had a greater academic performance with the implementation of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach Teaching System compared to students on control group who are using the Modular-Print modality.
2.    The academic performance of students in experimental group with the implementation of TEAM Model AI Smarter HiTeach System significantly different from the academic performance of students in control group with the Modular Print Self Learning Module.
