HiTeach 5.1 has been upgraded with the introduction of the new Smart Rating Module, which includes three major functions: Grand Rating, Multi-round Voting, and Peer Assessment, achieving a more comprehensive multi-assessment operational framework for teacher assessment, peer assessment, and student self-assessment, as shown in the picture below.
After the lesson, the Smart Rating and rating data will be automatically recorded in the lesson's Excel summary report, which can serve as a basis for the teacher to assess learning effectiveness.

A brief description of the three major functions of the Smart Rating:

1. Grand Rating: Every participant can be a judge/rater. After the teacher has selected the works, assignments, specific targets, or specific groups, the whole class can participate in rating and giving comments, creating an exciting and stimulating environment for the presentation of learning results.

2. Multi-round Voting: This is a convenient voting tool that can be used to vote on the location of the graduation trip, model students, student officer elections, etc. After the teacher selects the choices, multiple rounds of voting can be done to gradually reduce the choices, which is a very efficient classroom voting tool.

3. Peer Assessment: Peer Assessment is the most popular learning assessment tool among teachers, and it is a killer tool that not only reduces teachers' assessment burden, but also improves student learning outcomes (based on research data). Peer Assessment includes three application scenarios: self-assessment, randomized assigned peer assessment, and all items for all assessment.

All three functions can be activated directly, or used in conjunction with several functions such as Cloze/text questions and work collection - picture tasks & audio tasks.

✨ Grand Rating

In Grand Rating of Smart Rating, everyone can become a professional judge for each entry or subject, not only giving out scores, but also presenting their comments in the form of a bullet screen in real time! The final average scores of all the ratings can also be added directly to student Points, which is super convenient!

🌱 Rating of Student Works/Responses

Using HiTeach's Work Collection in classes to collect student works/assignments is a popular function, and now we can take it a step further by allowing students to grade the works as well. For example, a teacher conducts a Work Collection - Audio and asks students to record their answers and send them back to HiTeach, after students submit their recordings, the teacher can use Grand Rating to ask all students to act as judges to rate the collected recordings.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: To use Grand Rating with Work Collection, after the Work Collection is over, select the works to be rated and start Grand Rating directly from the Work Collection interface.

Step 2: Select the works to be rated and click Start Rating.

Step 3: Students can begin to give scores, enter comments, and then click Send.
Step 4: All comments will pop up in the form of a bullet screen and be recorded on the left side. When you have finished rating a work, you can click Stop Rating. Follow the same steps to rate all the works. Teachers can add points directly after finishing the rating (the average value of the score will be added directly to student Points).

🌱 Rating Individual, Group, or Customized Items

HiTeach also offers non-task/IRS question-based rating activities. For example, if teachers spontaneously want to have several works rated by students, they can first use the photo upload function of the HiTA app to upload the works to HiTeach, and then conduct the rating.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: After showing students the works to be rated, click IRS Tools, then click Smart Rating, and then click Grand Rating

Upload works to HiTeach using HiTA on your smartphone

Step 2: Click General Rating, then click + to add the number of items to be rated, then click Start Rating to allow students to rate and comment, and click Stop Rating when the rating is completed.

In addition to General Rating, ratings can also be made based on individual or group, and points can also be added to individuals or groups by pressing the thumbs-up button (the average value of the score will be added directly to student Points).

✨ Multi-round Voting

Multi-round Voting is a convenient voting tool that can be used to vote on the location of the graduation trip, model students, student officer elections, etc. After the teacher selects the choices, multiple rounds of voting can be done to gradually reduce the choices, which is a very efficient classroom voting tool.

🌱 Example 1: Vote for the location of the field trip

For example, to vote for the location of the field trip, the teacher prepares a page presenting the location and then starts the voting process. The top two places will first be chosen and then a second round of voting will be held to choose the final location of the field trip.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: After presenting the trip location, click IRS Tools, then click Smart Rating, and then click Voting.

Step 2: Click General Voting, then set the number of votes each person can cast (e.g., 2 votes means the students can select two locations), then click + to add the number of items to be voted, and then click Start Voting.

Step 3: Students can start to vote, enter comments, and then click Send. At the same time, HiTeach will dynamically display the voting process and all comments in the form of a bullet screen. After everyone has voted, click Stop Voting.

Step 4: HiTeach will list the items/candidates according to the number of votes they received. You can click Next Round and set the number of items/candidates for the next round, e.g., 2 means that only the top two candidates with the highest number of votes will be voted for. Then, set the number of votes each person can vote for in the next round, and then click Confirm.

Step 5: Students will vote and comment again, while HiTeach will dynamically display the voting process and all comments in the form of a bullet screen. After everyone has voted, click Stop Voting and the field day location is determined.

🌱 Example 2: Election of class representatives, model students, etc.

Schools often organize election activities, and it would be efficient to use Multi-round Voting to do so. For example, if you want to ask the students to elect a representative for their class, you can use Multi-round Voting to determine the final candidate.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: Click IRS Tools, then click Smart Rating, and then click Voting.

Step 2: Click Vote Individual, then click Select All to make every student a candidate, then set the number of votes each person can vote (e.g., 3 votes mean three students can be voted for), and then click Start Voting.

You can click Next Round and set the number of items/candidates for the next round, e.g., 5 means that only the top five candidates with the highest number of votes will be voted for. Then, set the number of votes each person can vote for in the next round, and then click Confirm.

Step 5: Students will vote and comment again, while HiTeach will dynamically display the voting process and all comments in the form of a bullet screen. After everyone has voted, click Stop Voting and the student representative is determined. Also, the full content of student comments can be displayed and pasted back to the HiTeach page at any time.

🌱 Example 3: Voting of Student Works/Responses

The works collected in class using HiTeach's Work Collection function can also be voted on by students. For example, in a group discussion or cooperative learning activity, after students have submitted their pictures/works, you can use Multi-round Voting to let students vote for their favorite works.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: Select the entries you want to vote on, then click Smart Rating, and then click Voting.

Step 2: Students can start to vote, enter comments, and then click Send. At the same time, HiTeach will dynamically display the voting process and all comments in the form of a bullet screen. After everyone has voted, click Stop Voting

✨ Peer Assessment

Peer Assessment is the most popular learning assessment tool among teachers, and it is a killer tool that not only reduces teachers' assessment burden, but also improves student learning outcomes (based on research data). Peer Assessment includes three application scenarios: self-assessment, randomized assigned peer assessment, and all items for all assessment.

🌱 Example 1: Peer Assessment of Randomly Assigned Student Works

For paper-based assignments or for summaries on specific topics in class, students can be asked to take pictures of their assignments and submit them to the class using Work Collection - Picture, and then teachers can use Peer Assessment, which can increase the diversity of assessment and enhance students' self-learning ability.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: Select all the collected works, then click Smart Rating, and then click Peer Assessment.

Step 2: Choose Random Assign, do the assessment settings, then click the start button. Students can start to give scores and comments for all the works, and then click Send after finishing.

Step 3: HiTeach will dynamically display the progress. After everyone has finished assessing, click the stop button, and the results will be displayed.

Using a similar method, you can ask students to turn in math problems that require a solution process and then use Peer Assessment to do the marking. After the students have exchanged and made corrections, the teacher can review and check, which is very efficient.

Teachers will explain the principles and key points of the peer assessment first

When using Peer Assessment, we need to emphasize some function switches, including the anonymity switches and the switch of whether or not to allow 0 points, that need to be evaluated and used appropriately by the teacher according to the class scenario. For example, for the fairness of Peer Assessment, if teachers don't want students to see who they are grading or who graded them, the anonymity switches can be turned on; if students are assessing each other's work, reports, etc., based on the principle of positive encouragement, it is not recommended to turn on Allow to Give 0 Points, and it may be appropriate to turn it on for the type of activity that has a correct answer. When applying technology, teachers should consider the usage scenarios and needs so that the technology can be used in the right place.

🌱 Example 2: Subjective questions are randomly assigned for correction and grading

Formative assessments and quizzes in the classroom are common activities and can be carried out in a hassle-free and efficient manner by using PowerPoint to prepare questions before class and HiTeach's interactive features. HiTeach can already automatically mark/grade student answers for objective questions that have pre-set answers, but now it can use Peer Assessment - Random Assign features for students to do the marking/grading for subjective questions, making assessment activities even more convenient.

Take sentence construction/making sentences as an example, students will be asked to complete the sentence construction activity in the form of text questions. After the answering is finished, the teacher can first explain the principle of exchanging and marking/grading, and then Peer Assessment - Random Assign can be activated for grading.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: When the PowerPoint presentation is in slide show mode and switched to the page with pre-prepared text/cloze question, the color of the HiTeach pen button will change, at this time, click the pen button and the page will be screenshot into HiTeach and the text/cloze question will start automatically.

Step 2: Students can start to answer and then click Send. At the same time, HiTeach will dynamically display the answering progress.

Step 3: After students have finished answering, click Flip Cards to show everyone's answers. Next, select the student responses to be rated/assessed, click Action, and then click Peer Assessment.

Step 4: Choose Random Assign, do the assessment settings (such as whether or not to be anonymous, whether or not to allow 0 points to be given, and the maximum score), then click the start button.

Step 5: Students can start to give scores, enter comments, and then click Send. At the same time, HiTeach will dynamically display the assessment progress. After everyone has finished, click the stop button.

Step 6: The results and comments can be viewed immediately. You can also directly add the scores to individual or group Points.

After the lesson, click End Lesson and all the lesson interaction records can be exported and saved as an Excel file.
Teachers can view the scores of all objective questions, as well as the ratings and comments of subjective questions, isn't it very convenient?

Note: If teachers want every student to assess all the items/works, they can use All Items for All.

🌱 Example 3: Self-Assessment

Under multi-assessment, Self-Assessment can also be used to allow students to evaluate themselves what marks their work deserves and why, which is a great way to learn to be responsible and self-assess. Below is an example of using  Work Collection - Picture, and then using Self-Assessment.

The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: Select all entries/works for self-assessment, then click Smart Rating, and then click Peer Assessment.

Step 2: Choose Self-Assessment, do the assessment settings, then click the start button. Students can start to give themselves scores, enter comments, and then click Send after finishing. At the same time, HiTeach will dynamically display the assessment progress. After everyone has finished, click the stop button in HiTeach.

Note: Peer Assessment does not support the use of IRS clickers/keypads.
