How to Use HiTeach 5's Subjective Questions?
Environmental Requirements:
HiTeach 5.2 or above (For version check and update method, please refer to here)
For subjective questions to have the function of peer grading/assessment, HiTeach requires an additional license for the Smart Rating module.
Multivariate Subjective Questions: Text (can include pictures), picture, audio, and file In the classroom, subjective questions are a more open-ended questioning strategy. Compared to multiple-choice questions, which require the design of question stems and options and students can only respond to fixed options, subjective questions can be used for direct interaction with various digital materials. The types of answers for subjective questions include text, pictures, audio, and files. Below are the descriptions:
⭐Subjective - Text
For subjective questions, students can be asked to answer in text and add drawings or written notes if required. Once you have collected the answers, you can review them collectively, conduct AI Text Analysis, or do peer assessment (students exchange for corrections).
Below is an example where students are asked to circle their favorite season and write why. The steps for performing the subjective question are as follows:
Step 1: Click
IRS Tools, click
Subjective, and choose
Text.
Step 2: Student devices will receive the content for the question. Students click on the picture, circle their favorite season, click the return button, and clic
k Save annotations. Next, enter the text content and click
Send.
Step 3: When all students have completed answering the question, click
Flip Cards on HiTeach to display the results of all students' answers. You can click on any student's answer to see the full content of the answer. You can further conduct
AI Text Analysis, including smart categories, word frequency, and word cloud.
⭐Subjective - Picture
The picture type of subjective questions can be used to ask students to answer questions based on pictures or objects sent by the teacher, e.g. jigsaw puzzle operations, math problems requiring calculation processes, study sheets, chess operations, etc. After you collect the answers, you can review them, give them points, or ask students to assess each other's work.
Below is an example of a math exercise where students are asked to send their calculations process as a picture. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: Click
IRS Tools, click
Subjective, and choose
Picture.
Step 2: Student devices will receive the content for the question. If students write their answer on a paper, click on the photo icon and take a photo of the answer using the take photo function of the device. They can crop or further edit the picture and send it to HiTeach when finished.
Students can also click the blank drawing board, write the answer directly, and click the send button to submit their answers.
Step 3: When all students have completed answering the question, click
Flip Cards on HiTeach to display the results of all students' answers. You can click on any student's answer to see the full content of the answer.
Step 4: If your HiTeach is licensed with the
Smart Rating module, you can ask students to exchange and review/grade each other's answers. Click
Peer Assessment, click
Random Assign, turn on
Allow to Give 0 Points (because this question has a correct answer), and click the start button.
Step 5: Students will then receive randomly assigned answers. They can assess, enter a comment, and click
Send after finishing.
Step 6: You can view the progress on HiTeach. When you want to finish, click the stop button, click
Overwrite to the source page, and click
Add & Return to the Source Page.
The answer score/point can be viewed after
Flip Cards. You can also manually edit the score by selecting the target students, click
Action, and choose what score to give.
⭐Subjective - Audio
For audio-type subjective questions, students are mainly asked to make audio recordings. Teachers can set whether students should record directly or repeat according to prompts, and whether the system's AI will automatically r
ate the correctness. After collecting the answers, teachers can review, do peer assessment, and give scores.
For speaking exercises you want students to record and have the AI automatically rate (AI speech recognition scoring), click
Speaking Exercise directly.
Students can then record and submit their recordings. When they are finished, the results of each student's AI score will be displayed on HiTeach. Teachers can also do peer assessment or manually change the score.
Note: The AI speech recognition scoring function depends on device support, so please check if your student's device supports it before using it. Currently, iPad 8 or above, Windows Edge, or Chrome are known to be supported environments. If not, please use the audio-type subjective question and use Peer Assessment to compensate for the environmental limitations.
💡Multiple Question Speaking Exercise
HiTeach also provides
multi-question speaking SelfPace Test, select the text box content with paragraph breaks on the page, open the sub-menu, and click
Start a SelfPace Test with multiple speaking exercises to quickly launch the SelfPace Test.
The system will automatically divide the questions into multiple questions according to the paragraphs. After previewing the questions, click
Start and students can start answering the questions.
The system then enters HiTeach's SelfPace Test mode, where students start answering and teachers can view the progress of all students.
⭐Subjective - File
Using file-type subjective questions, students can submit files according to the content of the question, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, etc. After collecting the answers, teachers can review, do peer assessment, and give scores.
