HiTeach "Contest Game Mode": Applying Your Gamified Learning Tool

Environment Requirements:
1. Teacher's device: HiTeach 5.3.0.0012 or later. Please check if your version is up-to-date. For version checking and updating methods, please refer here.
2. Student devices: Tablets or IRS (Interactive Response System) devices.

Using competitions to enhance students' learning motivation has always been a common and engaging teaching activity in education. The Contest Game Mode in HiTeach 5 is a powerful tool to support this teaching application.
The Contest Game Mode is divided into two types: "Survival Race" and "Score Race."
Survival Race: In this challenge mode, students who answer incorrectly during the activity will not be able to answer the next question, similar to the elimination mechanism in many sports competitions.
Score Race: All participating students can answer every question. The system automatically scores and records the answering time (answering speed). After the activity ends, the ranking is based on the accumulated score.

✨I. Preparing Teaching Materials for the Contest Game

The teaching materials required for the Contest Game must be in HiTeach's exclusive HTEX format. The content pages can include explanation pages and question pages. It is generally recommended to first edit the required materials for the activity in PowerPoint, set the information for the question pages, and then import them into HiTeach before saving them as an HTEX file. Of course, you can also directly edit on the HiTeach page and then save. For the two methods of setting questions, please refer to the following content:

✨II. Operation Methods for Running the Contest Game

Once you have the prepared HTEX format teaching materials, you can start the exciting Contest Game. After "Start Lesson," please first confirm that all participating students have connected and entered this class.

Confirm students are connected to the class before starting the Contest Game activity.
Confirm that student tablets or IRS devices are connected to HiTeach.

Next, select the "Contest Game" button in the "Test Mode" toolbar to execute it. After the "Contest Game" settings screen appears, please select the prepared HTEX test paper materials, complete the relevant settings, and click the "Confirm" button to start the "Contest Game" activity.
The explanations for each setting in the Contest Game settings screen are as follows:
  • You can set whether the activity uses Survival race or Score race.
  • Duration: Set the answering time and whether to override the answering time originally set when editing the questions.
  • Number of Final Rankings: The number of ranking results automatically displayed by the system after the Contest Game ends.
  • Each question starts after comfirmation: If this item is checked, a preparation status can be entered when the question is displayed, and the teacher controls the official start, suitable for situations where students need more time to read the questions.

This way, after starting the class, you only need to click the HTEX icon to automatically enter the Contest Game. For example, in the figure below, three different types of HTEX files are saved as attachments to the page in advance, and then students choose the Contest Game item, making the Contest Game operation more convenient and the content more exciting.
