Using competitions to enhance students' learning motivation has always been a common and engaging teaching activity in education. The Contest Game Mode in
HiTeach 5 is a powerful tool to support this teaching application.
The Contest Game Mode is divided into two types: "Survival Race" and "Score Race."
Survival Race: In this challenge mode, students who answer incorrectly during the activity will not be able to answer the next question, similar to the elimination mechanism in many sports competitions.
Score Race: All participating students can answer every question. The system automatically scores and records the answering time (answering speed). After the activity ends, the ranking is based on the accumulated score.
✨I. Preparing Teaching Materials for the Contest Game
The teaching materials required for the Contest Game must be in HiTeach's exclusive HTEX format. The content pages can include explanation pages and question pages. It is generally recommended to first edit the required materials for the activity in PowerPoint, set the information for the question pages, and then import them into HiTeach before saving them as an HTEX file. Of course, you can also directly edit on the HiTeach page and then save. For the two methods of setting questions, please refer to the following content:
☑️For operations on editing question settings in PowerPoint, please refer to:

https://www.habook.com/en/faq.php?act=view&id=275 | | File Type & Preparation | In-Class Application |
|---|
1 | HTEX File Import your PowerPoint, Canva presentations, or Excel test files into HiTeach. After setting the question types and answer options, save it as a HiTeach-specific HTEX format. | After starting the lesson, select the Contest Game button from the Test mode button, then choose the HTEX file to begin the contest. |
2 | EXCEL File Generate an Excel test file from the question bank system. Save the exported CSV file from the question bank as an XLS or XLSX file. Or you can edit by yourself. | After starting the lesson, navigate to the HiTeach's Resources area (e.g., the exam file in the sample files), select the EXCEL test file, and choose the Contest Game button in the pop-up open dialog box. |
3 | IES Exam File Create a test file in IES beforehand. From the HiTeach's Resources area, click IES Exam File. In the open dialog box that appears, select the Attachment button to download the test file to the page, where a test file icon will appear. | After starting the lesson, click the attachment test file icon on HiTeach's page. When the open dialog box appears, select the Contest Game button. |
✨II. Operation Methods for Running the Contest Game
Once you have the prepared HTEX format teaching materials, you can start the exciting Contest Game. After "
Start Lesson," please first confirm that all participating students have connected and entered this class.
Confirm that student tablets or IRS devices are connected to HiTeach. Next, select the "
Contest Game" button in the "
Test Mode" toolbar to execute it. After the "
Contest Game" settings screen appears, please select the prepared HTEX test paper materials, complete the relevant settings, and click the "Confirm" button to start the "
Contest Game" activity.
The explanations for each setting in the Contest Game settings screen are as follows:
- You can set whether the activity uses Survival race or Score race.
- Duration: Set the answering time and whether to override the answering time originally set when editing the questions.
- Number of Final Rankings: The number of ranking results automatically displayed by the system after the Contest Game ends.
- Each question starts after comfirmation: If this item is checked, a preparation status can be entered when the question is displayed, and the teacher controls the official start, suitable for situations where students need more time to read the questions.
Contest Game Settings Screen
Open Excel test files or IES cloud test files to start a Contest Game. After starting the "
Contest Game," the first page of your selected teaching material will be displayed. You can click the yellow "running man" icon in the middle to perform the "Next" action.
Operation screen after entering Contest Game status After starting the activity, if students are using tablets, the WebIRS screen will also display a 3, 2, 1 countdown to prompt students to prepare to officially enter the Contest Game activity segment.
Screen displayed on the student's computer After entering the test question answering page, if "
Each question starts after comfirmation" is set, the screen will remain at "
Ready." The teacher can provide necessary guidance on the questions based on actual needs and then click the "running man" to proceed to the next step for students to start answering.
Preparation status of the answer page If "
Preparation Status" was not set at the beginning, it will directly enter the student answering phase. You can decide whether to adjust the volume of the answering background sound or minimize the student feedback area to present the teaching material content based on the actual situation.
⭐If students are answering through the WebIRS on tablets, the system will automatically push the teaching material page to the student devices. Teachers can decide whether to minimize the student feedback area.
HiTeach screen when students start answering After the answering time ends, the system will automatically display the students' correct and incorrect answers. Bright ones indicate correct answers, while dimmed ones indicate incorrect answers for that question.
If you set the "
Survival Race" mode,
only students who answered correctly can continue to the next question.
If it is the "
Score Race" mode, it will not be affected, and
all students can continue to participate and answer.
Screen of question answering results If the answering situation is not as expected, for example, if the number of correct answers is too small or even the entire class answers incorrectly, the teacher can decide whether to allow students who answered incorrectly in this question to recover and advance, or directly allow all students in the class to recover and advance.
You can decide whether to allow students who answered incorrectly to recover and advance to the next question. After completing all the test questions designed for the Contest Game activity, the system will automatically display the
"Ranking List" of this Contest Game activity based on the students' total scores and answering times.
Ranking results are automatically displayed immediately after the Contest Game ends. ⭐After
closing the Contest Game activity, please remember to click the "
End Lesson" button so that HiTeach will save all the competition data for you.
✨III. Save Questions as Attachments to the HiTeach Page in Advance
After preparing the HTEX file, you can save it as an attachment to the HiTeach page in advance. This way, after starting the class, you only need to click the HTEX icon to automatically enter the Contest Game. For example, in the figure below, three different types of HTEX files are saved as attachments to the page in advance, and then students choose the Contest Game item, making the Contest Game operation more convenient and the content more exciting. (For operation methods, please refer to:
Editing HiTeach Contest Game Materials Using Excel or Cloud Test Files)
Save questions as attachments to the HiTeach page to directly start the Contest Game. ►Related Reference Information:
