Have you noticed a blue S icon next to the Start Lesson button in another teacher's HiTeach interface, while yours does not show one? This is usually not a software issue. The S icon indicates that AI Sokrates services are licensed, allowing teachers to start lesson recording, generate AI-supported lesson analysis, and conduct synchronous digital lesson observation directly from HiTeach.
Environment Requirements
The school must have purchased the Sokrates Digital Lesson Observation Platform. The classroom computer must have HiTeach 5 or later installed with an additional AI Sokrates Pack license. Please keep HiTeach up to date; see how to check and update your HiTeach version.
The S icon appears when HiTeach has an AI Sokrates-related license. AI Sokrates supports teacher professional growth, public lessons, and evidence-based lesson observation and discussion. It is useful both for individual reflection and for collaborative professional learning.
Teachers using an AI Sokrates Digital Lesson Observation Solution—or experts and educators participating through an authorized project—may receive AI Sokrates modules in addition to the student-device connection license. Available services can include:
Record the HiTeach desktop or use an external camera to capture the classroom environment.
Let observers join on phones, tablets, or laptops and create multimedia observation notes.
Combine classroom video, HiTeach events, and AI analysis into a reviewable lesson case.
Transcribe teacher and student dialogue and display it chronologically in the Sokrates Timeline.
When you want to record a lesson for personal review or conduct lesson observation with a team, start the lesson by selecting the S icon rather than the regular Start Lesson button.
Select the S icon in the upper-right corner. In the Sokrates Lesson Observation setup window, enter the lesson name and relevant course information. Choose whether to enable synchronous recording and whether to generate a transcript, then select Start.
If synchronous recording is enabled, use 10 seconds test before the lesson. The default source records the computer desktop, but you may select a Webcam or another external camera. Review the test recording and confirm that both video and audio are clear before selecting Start.
💡 Audio reminder: if a Webcam or external camera is capturing audio, avoid using an additional amplified microphone unless the environment includes a properly configured audio mixer. This generally produces clearer teacher–student dialogue in the recording.
The next step works like the regular HiTeach Start Lesson workflow. Select the course and student roster, then select Start so students can join. Using the correct roster ensures that student interactions, submissions, and lesson data are associated with the right class.
Before leaving the classroom, select End Lesson. The Record List displays the upload and processing status of the lesson case. Processing may take several minutes; you can close the window, continue with other work, and select the S icon later to check the status.
When processing is complete, select the S icon again and open the Sokrates entry. The HiTeach side panel presents the complete lesson-case data for review and discussion. Select the full-screen icon whenever you need a larger view of the report.
The lesson case opens with an AI summary. Use the tabs shown in the interface to switch among T-technology Interaction, P-pedagogy Application, E-engagement, Sokrates Timeline, Sokrates Video, Lesson Observation Records, and Norm-Referenced Analysis. Together, these views help teams discuss a lesson using visible classroom evidence rather than impressions alone.

You can also use the browser entry in HiTeach or visit the Sokrates Digital Lesson Observation Platform. The browser view includes the Sokrates Video, AI Sokrates Timeline, lesson e-notes, observation records, and AI Sokrates reports. To save a video, select the More Information icon and choose Download the Video from the advanced menu.
Open the Sokrates Platform
For a public lesson, other teachers or experts can join the synchronous observation session using a phone, tablet, or laptop. They can scan the QR code shown in HiTeach or open a shared Sokrates Lesson Observation App URL to enter the digital observation room.
Observers can create time-linked records using text, photos, and video. These multimedia notes are collected with the lesson case, making it easier to revisit specific teaching events during the post-lesson discussion.
If observers have the HiTA App installed, they can use the scan function in the upper-right corner. They may also select the blue Start Lesson Observation area on the Home tab, then enter the classroom number and verification code (PIN No.).
The complete workflow can be summarized as follows: configure the lesson case and recording → select the class and start the lesson → invite observers to create synchronous records → end the lesson and wait for processing → review the video, timeline, reports, and observation records → conduct an evidence-based professional discussion.
