Assign, Collect, Peer Review, and Package In-Class Tasks with HiTeach in Real Time

How to Assign In-Class Tasks and Collect Student Work in Real Time

With HiTeach 5 and student-side Web IRS, teachers can send file, image, or audio tasks during class, collect every student's work instantly, monitor submission status, and continue with review, sharing, scoring, or peer review.

Requirements

1. For synchronous in-class use, we recommend using HiTeach 5 with Web IRS on student tablets or computers. Please make sure HiTeach has been updated to a version that supports the related features. For version checking and update instructions, please refer to the HiTeach version check and update guide.

2. For asynchronous assignments before or after class, we recommend using the teacher-side IES Cloud Platform together with student-side AClass ONE.

Distributing and collecting assignments, worksheets, student work, and learning tasks are common classroom routines. With digital tools, teachers can reduce the time spent handing out, collecting, and organizing work, while also gaining a faster view of whole-class completion status. This is especially useful for face-to-face classrooms, online teaching, and hybrid learning scenarios.

The TEAM Model smart education ecosystem provides two main assignment workflows. One is to use the IES Cloud Platform for asynchronous assignments before or after class. The other is to use HiTeach during class to send tasks and collect submissions synchronously. This article focuses on the second workflow: using the HiTeach Task Works feature for real-time in-class collection.

Tip: For online assignment release, student submission, teacher review, and student access to feedback before or after class, please refer to: How teachers publish IES online assignments, students submit work, teachers review assignments, and students check feedback.

I. Basic Concept of In-Class Task Collection

During class, teachers can use the Task Works feature in the teaching tool area to send content to students through Web IRS. The task can be based on a whiteboard page, a PowerPoint slide, a web page, or any prepared HiTeach page. After students complete the task and tap Send, the teacher can view each student's submission status and submitted work in the collection window.

Task Works supports three common submission formats: files, images, and audio recordings. Teachers can also use the same workflow to quickly collect work that students completed before class, making the classroom collection and review process much more efficient.

HiTeach Task Works lets teachers assign tasks and collect student submissions in real time
Teachers send tasks in HiTeach, students submit through Web IRS, and the teacher instantly sees whole-class completion status.

Tip: After collecting student work in HiTeach, teachers can continue with peer review. For details, please refer to: HiTeach 5 Smart Scoring Module: star scoring, voting, and peer review.

II. Three Common Types of Task Works

01. Collecting File-Based Assignments or Student Work

To collect file-based assignments, open the teaching tool area in HiTeach 5 Professional Edition, select Task Works, and then choose File. On the student side, learners can select the file they want to submit through Web IRS and tap Send.

The collection window on the teacher side shows each student's submission status in real time. Teachers can then monitor progress, select examples for display, or plan follow-up review activities.

File tasks are suitable for collecting documents, slides, compressed files, or other digital work completed by students.

02. Collecting Image-Based Assignments or Student Work

If the student work is image-based, such as a paper worksheet, handwritten notes, drawings, or activity records, teachers can select Image under Task Works. Students may take a photo using a tablet or computer, or choose an existing image file from their device and submit it.

After the images are collected, teachers can view the whole class's submissions, choose representative examples, and use them for sharing, comparison, review, or peer evaluation.

03. Collecting Audio-Based Assignments or Student Work

Audio tasks are useful for reading aloud, speaking practice, language expression, music performance, learning reflection, or oral explanation. After the teacher chooses Audio under Task Works, students can record with the microphone on their tablet or computer and tap Send when finished.

The teacher can instantly check submission status and listen to student recordings, then provide feedback, conduct review, or use the recordings for further assessment.

Audio tasks are ideal when students need to express ideas, read aloud, or explain their thinking through voice.

III. Packaging and Downloading Assignments or Student Work

After HiTeach collects student work, teachers can package and download the classroom data together with student submissions. This can be done before the class ends, or after ending the class but before starting the next class. We recommend exporting before closing HiTeach to avoid losing student-submitted work.

  1. Step 1: In the class information area at the top, open the student attendance list and select Export classroom data and student works. Please note: if HiTeach is closed directly, student works will not be saved.
  2. Step 2: Check Export classroom data and student works, and then choose where to save the files. HiTeach will export classroom data in Excel format and student work as a ZIP archive.
  3. Step 3: Extract the student work ZIP file. You can view all submitted images, files, or audio recordings by task number. File names are organized by student number, making it easier to review and archive submissions.
