How can students use HiTeach AI Companion for personalized learning in class and after class?
HiTeach AI supports not only teachers as they teach, but also students as they ask questions, review answers, practice further, and reflect on assignments through AI Companion.
Requirements and usage notes:
- HiTeach version: Teachers should use HiTeach 5.5.1.0000 or later. To check and update the software, please refer to the HiTeach update guide.
- Teacher account: Teachers sign in to HiTeach and run classroom activities with HiTeach AI enabled. Teachers remain responsible for instructional design, learning objectives, and final judgment.
- Student access: Students use the student-side learning interface during class. After class, students can enter the hiteach.cc portal with an access code provided by the teacher.
- Learning scope: AI Companion responds according to the classroom activity, pushed lesson page, assessment record, or task context arranged by the teacher.
- AI support: AI-generated explanations and practice items are learning aids. They are designed to help students think, revise, and practice, not to replace the teacher or do the thinking for students.
HiTeach AI Companion makes support available at the moment students need it.
In a HiTeach classroom, students do not only receive content. They respond, write, discuss, review, and practice. AI Companion becomes a learning partner inside this process: it can help review answers, explain key concepts, rephrase difficult ideas, generate follow-up questions, and guide students to keep practicing until they understand.
For teachers, this means personalized learning can happen inside the lesson flow. The teacher sets the learning target and activity context, while AI Companion gives each student timely support based on that student's response or learning record. This helps teachers implement mastery learning, adaptive practice, and differentiated instruction in a practical classroom setting.
How AI Companion works in a personalized learning cycle
The following examples show how AI Companion can support different grades and subjects. Although each learning activity is different, the student-side learning cycle is easy to understand: students first participate in a teacher-led activity, then use AI Companion to review, clarify, practice, and strengthen mastery.
Step 1Teacher launches
a learning task
Step 2Student responds
or opens material
Step 3AI reviews
and explains
Step 4Student asks
for clarification
Step 5AI provides
adaptive practice
The key is that AI appears inside the learning flow. Students no longer need to leave the activity, search elsewhere, or wait until the next lesson to understand what went wrong. AI Companion helps turn each response, page, or record into an opportunity for immediate review and continued learning.
Part 1: In-class personalized learning supported by HiTeach classroom interactionFrom teacher-led interaction to student-side AI support
During class, teachers can use HiTeach to ask questions, push lesson pages, run assessments, and collect student responses. After students complete the activity, AI Companion can provide individual explanation and follow-up practice according to the task context.
[1] Elementary Mathematics: personalized learning during class
This example uses an elementary mathematics question to show how AI Companion can help students review an answer, understand the reasoning, and continue with adaptive follow-up questions.
Sample question: If 2 2/3 ribbons are 16 meters long in total, how long is 1 ribbon?
(A) 6(B) 8(C) 9(D) 11
- Teacher launches the question. The teacher uses HiTeach to present the question and switches to the IRS interaction page, allowing students to submit answers immediately.
- Student opens AI Companion. After answering, the student taps the AI Companion icon on the lower-right side of the student interface.
- AI reviews and explains. AI Companion first reviews the student's answer and provides feedback based on whether the answer is correct.
- Student asks for a simpler explanation. If the student still does not understand, the student can ask AI Companion to explain in a clearer or more detailed way.
- AI generates follow-up practice. AI Companion can create additional questions for mastery learning. Students who answer steadily can receive enrichment questions, while students who need support can receive easier adaptive practice.
[2] Middle School Social Studies: personalized learning during class
For text-based subjects, AI Companion can help students connect the question to the background knowledge, clarify important concepts, and review the reasoning behind each option.
Sample question: To solve a financial crisis, the King of France decided to reconvene a consultative body that had not met since 1614. Representatives gathered at Versailles with petitions from across society. Which consultative body is most likely described?
(A) Paris Peace Conference(B) Estates-General(C) Customs Union(D) United Nations General Assembly
- Teacher presents the lesson and launches a question. The teacher uses HiTeach materials and switches to the IRS interaction page.
- Student answers and opens AI Companion. After submitting an answer, the student opens AI Companion from the student-side interface.
- AI explains the context. AI Companion provides answer feedback and connects the question to the historical background.
- Student asks for easier wording. If the student still does not understand, AI Companion can reframe the explanation in simpler language.
- AI continues adaptive practice. AI Companion can generate follow-up questions. When the teacher moves to the next page or task, the student-side AI window follows the lesson flow and closes automatically.
[3] High School Mathematics: personalized learning during class
For open-ended or handwritten responses, AI Companion can help students examine their solution process and understand mathematical reasoning step by step.
Sample question: Convert the repeating decimal 0.87 into a fraction in simplest form.
- Teacher launches an open-ended question. The teacher asks the question in HiTeach and switches to the IRS interaction page.
- Student writes and submits the answer. The student opens the writing board, writes the solution, submits the response, and then opens AI Companion.
- AI reviews the response. The student can request AI-assisted review. AI Companion checks the response and explains the solution process.
- Student asks for detailed or simpler explanation. AI Companion can expand the reasoning, explain formulas and operations, or rephrase the idea in a more accessible way.
- AI generates adaptive practice. Follow-up questions help students consolidate the concept. The activity stays connected to the teacher's lesson flow.
[4] English lesson page: personalized learning during class
AI Companion can also support learning directly from a lesson page pushed by the teacher. Students can review the page, ask for explanation, request memory strategies, and practice further.
- Teacher pushes a lesson page. The teacher switches to a lesson page in HiTeach and pushes the page to students.
- Student opens AI Companion. After receiving the page, the student taps the AI Companion icon.
- AI explains the page. AI Companion explains the content based on the material the teacher pushed.
- Student asks for learning strategies. For example, a student can ask for vocabulary memory tips or mnemonic support.
- AI generates follow-up practice. AI Companion can design suitable practice questions to strengthen understanding and application.
[5] Self-paced assessment: personalized learning during class
After a self-paced assessment, students can use AI Companion to review missed questions and immediately continue with practice that targets their own learning needs.
- Teacher starts the assessment. The teacher selects a test paper, starts the self-paced assessment, and stops the test after students complete it.
- Student reviews the result. The student checks the corrected paper and opens AI Companion from the lower-right side of the interface.
- Student selects missed questions. AI Companion displays the item list. The student can choose a missed question and ask for detailed explanation.
- AI provides extra practice. AI Companion can generate additional adaptive questions for mastery learning, helping each student review and practice at a suitable level.
Why this matters in class: When every student can receive explanation and practice based on their own response, teachers can make mastery learning more concrete. AI Companion helps transform class interaction data into immediate, student-facing learning support.
Part 2: After-class personalized learning through the Contact Book portalStudents can continue learning after class with assessment records and AI Companion
After class, students can use the access code provided by the teacher to sign in to the Family Access / Contact Book portal. From there, they can review assessment records, open AI Companion, ask for explanations, and continue practicing.
Contact Book [1] Assessment record example: personalized learning after class
When a teacher conducts a self-paced assessment during class, the record can become a resource for after-class review. Students do not need to wait until the next class to correct misunderstandings. They can revisit the record, review missed questions, and continue learning with AI Companion.
- Assessment activity takes place in class. The teacher conducts a self-paced assessment in HiTeach. After class, students can review the assessment record through the portal.
