HiTeach Web Text Questions: Collect Ideas and Create Word Clouds

HiTeach Web | Operation and Application Guide

When the answer is not limited to a fixed option, use a text or fill-in-the-blank question to collect keywords, short phrases, predictions, and reasons. Responses can be revealed immediately or organized into a word cloud.

Requirements and Before You Begin

  • HiTeach Web is a browser-based service. The teacher and all students need a stable internet connection. We recommend the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge for the teacher device.
  • HiTeach Web is available under Free, Professional, and School licenses. See the product and licensing page for details.
  • Available features, usage limits, participant capacity, and cloud storage vary by license. Refer to the latest information shown after sign-in and on the product page.
  • To reduce typing on phones, define the expected length in advance—for example, “Use one word” or “Write no more than 20 words.” AI-assisted summaries are available according to license.

Text Questions and Fill-in-the-Blank Questions

Use the same workflow for a focused fill-in-the-blank answer—such as a term, number, year, or expression—or for an open text response such as an observation, reason, question, or reflection.

1

Place the question on the whiteboard

Type the question directly, or use the Screen Capture Tool to capture it from a presentation or e-book.

Start a text question in HiTeach Web
Check that the prompt is clear, then select the appropriate text-response activity.
2

Students enter and submit their responses

State the expected response format and length so students know whether to enter a keyword, a short phrase, or a complete explanation.

Student enters a text response
Students can type from a phone, tablet, or computer.
3

Monitor submission progress

Watch the number of submitted responses. If many students have not answered, explain the prompt again. If the response-status panel covers the question, select the lower-right control to hide it; select the control again to restore it.

Monitor text-response submission progress
The teacher can see the collection status in real time.
4

Reveal and read the responses

Select Reveal to review all submitted student responses.

Reveal student text responses
Use the responses as material for whole-class discussion.
5

Organize shared ideas

When the responses work well as keywords, select Word Cloud. Words that appear more often are shown more prominently.

Turn text responses into a word cloud
A word cloud quickly highlights common responses across the class.
Paste the word cloud onto the whiteboard
Paste the result back to the whiteboard for annotation, grouping, and follow-up explanation.
Use AI to summarize text responses
Select GPT, then Summary, to organize the main ideas when the feature is available.
