HiTeach Web | Operation and Application Guide

Buzz-in, Smart Pick, and the Timer

In addition to questions and tasks, teachers can use Buzz-in, Smart Pick, and the Timer to manage oral responses, discussion pace, and whole-class participation.

Requirements and Before You Begin

  • HiTeach Web is a browser-based service. The teacher and all students need a stable internet connection. We recommend the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge for the teacher device.
  • HiTeach Web is available under Free, Professional, and School licenses. See the product and licensing page for details.
  • Available features, usage limits, participant capacity, and cloud storage vary by license. Refer to the latest information shown after sign-in and on the product page.
  • Tool names and availability may change by version. Before a live activity, use a test list to confirm the student screen and any sound effects.

Buzz-in is designed for classroom activities that need a fast response.

Run a Buzz-in Activity

1

Explain the question and rules

Read the complete question first. State when students may buzz in and whether an incorrect answer opens the question to another student.

2

Start Buzz-in

When the teacher starts the activity, the buzz-in control appears on student devices.

Confirm that all students are connected before starting.
Buzz-in control on a student device
Students select the button according to the announced rules.
3

Display the result and invite the response

The system identifies the student who earned the right to answer. The teacher then invites that student to respond aloud.

Display the Buzz-in result
Winning the buzz-in gives the right to answer; it does not mean the answer is correct.

Use Smart Pick from Results

After students answer, use the chart to select students strategically and ask them to explain their thinking.

Use Smart Pick from a bar-chart result
Invite a student from a selected answer group to explain the reasoning.
Use Smart Pick from a pie-chart result
Ask students with different choices to compare their approaches.
Teaching tip: Buzz-in raises the pace; Smart Pick deepens discussion. If every student should think first, collect a whole-class response before selecting students to share.

Use the Countdown Timer

For hands-on work or discussion, run the countdown directly from the HiTeach Web toolbar or from HiTA on the teacher's phone.
