In celebration of World Book Day, the "Online Synchronous Reading Fun" event, hosted by the Department of Education, Taipei City Government and co-organized by the Global TEAM Model Smart Education Institute, TTLITDA, and other partners, successfully connected multiple schools and hundreds of teachers and students across counties. Over three consecutive days, participants embarked on a profound and heartwarming reading journey during their morning periods.
This event utilized the HiTeach interactive classroom combined with video conferencing platforms to create a real-time interactive reading environment, attracting hundreds of students over the three days. Children from different schools met in the cloud, enhancing their reading comprehension and broadening their learning horizons through text reading, instant answering, and idea exchange—truly putting cross-domain co-learning into practice in the digital age.
🌈 3 Major Themes × Diverse Reading Experiences
🔹 Session 1 | Colorful Language & Positive Communication
Using "The Power of the Fourth Leaf" as the text, students were guided to think about "uniqueness" and self-worth, practicing positive expression through interactive feedback to build confidence and empathy.
🔹 🌍 Session 2 | Real World & Social Awareness
Using an article from The Reporter for Kids on e-cigarettes and peer relationships to cultivate students' media literacy and value judgments, deepening their understanding of real-world issues.
🔹 🌼 Session 3 | Everyday Objects & Wonders on Paper
Focusing on "toilet paper," this session extended from daily life to history and knowledge, stimulating curiosity and helping students see the extraordinary in ordinary things.
🌟 Digital Reading × Cross-School Co-Learning
All three events demonstrated the application value of digital technology in reading instruction:
- ✔ Real-time interactive quizzes enhance focus and engagement.
- ✔ Synchronous cross-school reading creates diverse interaction scenarios.
- ✔ Combining text comprehension with critical thinking guides deep learning.
Students generally provided feedback that the event was "interesting, fun, and rewarding," which not only boosted their reading motivation but also helped them better understand the text. Teachers affirmed that this model effectively promoted student engagement and provided a rare cross-school learning experience.
💬 Authentic Echoes of Teaching and Learning From students saying they are "more motivated to read" and "learned to see themselves and the world from different perspectives," to teachers observing that "texts are close to life, issues trigger thinking" and "digital interaction improves learning outcomes"—all these show that this event successfully combined reading content with learning scenarios, making reading not just about understanding words, but a journey of self-discovery and global connection.

🌟 Event Highlights & Text Intro
Leveraging technology, students enjoyed the fun of reading and answering questions together across schools and counties.

- 💡 Quiz Design: Focused on understanding the narrative logic of comics and cultivating observation of "suggestive features." Combined with media literacy education, it guided students to analyze the motives behind peers sharing "pseudo-science" videos, turning the hard topic of tobacco control into deep logical reasoning.

- 🔅 Yeh O-Chen (Minghu JH): The text is very close to reality; it's an issue that needs to be discussed in life.
📬 [Teacher Feedback]- ✏️ Teacher Chou Chien-Ling (Jingxing JH): The topics chosen (peer dilemmas, e-cigarettes, basketball) are all things students care about... Through the teacher's friendly guidance, students learned together with students from other schools, gaining a very rare experience.
- ✏️ Teacher Cheng Ching-Tzu (Jingxing JH): Thanks to the organizers for their careful planning. Children actually feel strongly about this topic, especially in situations involving "inappropriate invitations."
